The Lower East Side has found its epicenter for the hoodie, with the opening of the appropriately named Hoodie Shop. The nitzsche shop on Houston and Orchard offers a variety of styles and patterns from brands based around the globe. Co-Founder, Aleah Speranza Says “I was determined to find brands that weren’t sold here. We have brands from the West Coast to Australia. Our Main goal was to feature something different that wasn’t available anywhere else in the city.”

Speranza, along with Pete Shapiro of Brooklyn Bowl both shared the idea for a creative shop, where people could not only shop for something as unanimously lovable as a hoodie, but also just hang out. Both envisioning it to eventually be “The Lower East Side’s Living Room”.

The art and design of the shop was inspired by the fillmore art of the 60′s and 70s to celebrate the music, design and innovation of that era with a modern twist. “We wanted to create something welcoming, bright and vibrant without being cheesy.” Along with constant 60′s and 70′s music footage featured on a large projection screen, the shop sports a large marquee showcasing influential dates in music throughout history in accordance with the daily date.

Their line of sunglasses have all been replicated from original models from the 60′s and 70′s, and are each showcased on top of a clear block, noting the year of original production. The Shop is looking to throw some pop up events in the near future, including a live stream of Coachella this weekend, as well as future giveaways and trivia for Brooklyn Bowl events. Hours are from 11am-8pm, 11am-11pm on weekends. www.thehoodieshop.com
