Every Friday, Men’s Health will propose one fitness test for you to attempt over the weekend. This weekend, try the 5-10-15 challenge. Grab a stopwatch and perform 5 pullups, 10 pushups, and 15 bodyweight squats, in that order, as fast as possible with good form. Repeat 5 times.
This fast-paced drill will test your muscle strength and endurance, says Todd Durkin, C.S.C.S, trainer to many pro athletes like Drew Brees, Chris Young, and Mo Williams. Although the challenge is only three moves, it’s a total-body sweat session. That’s because you’ll target big muscles like your lats, pecs, quads, and glutes, igniting muscle growth, revving your metabolism, and accelerating weight loss.
If you have trouble with the pullups, try a band-assisted pullup. This version allows you activate the same muscles used when doing a regular pullup, but offers you some assistance. Loop one end of a band around a pullup bar and then pull it through the other end of the band. Then, grab the bar with an overhand-grip that’s slightly wider than shoulder width, place one or both knees in the loop of the band, and hang at arm’s length.
Ready to try it? Watch the video below to see Durkin perform the Weekend Challenge. He finished 5 rounds in 3 minutes and 45 seconds. Can you beat his time? Let us know in the comments below.
