We did an extremely unscientific opinion poll of our readers, friends and family living around the New York City region about NASCAR. The results weren’t surprising. The overwhelming majority seemed intrigued by the sport culture, the “southern fans,” Ricky Bobby and the tailgate scene but admittedly most have never paid it much attention.
This fall we’re working directly with NASCAR to change all that. Over the next six weeks NASCAR will give us an all-access pass in an attempt to turn the staff of RSVLTS.com into fans and show our readers that there is reason to be pumped about the sport. This will include interviews with the biggest racing stars, giveaways, a RSVLTS.com RV trip to Charlotte to experience the most epic tailgate scene in American sports and an all-access pass to pit row where we will be on a mission to find Carley Bobby lookalikes, change some tires and photo bomb Jeff Gordon.
Now we kick things off with the most badass racer in NASCAR (in our opinion) Denny Hamlin. Two weeks ago the 19 time NASCAR Sprint Cup winner ran out of gas in the final laps at Chicago. Shortly after the depressing loss Hamlin sent a tweet guaranteeing a win the following week at New Hampshire. Under the pressure of his Ruthian promise and despite starting 28th in line after a poor qualifying run, Hamlin dominated on Sunday to win!
So what do athletes do after guaranteeing victory and following through on the promise? Talk to RSVLTS.com, obviously.
