Starbucks Verismo Is The Single-Cup Coffee Killer

Starbucks has had a secret weapon up there sleeves, eight years in the making. Keurig has had a stronghold on the multi-billion dollar single-cup serving market but Starbucks is about to change all that as they recently announced their jump into the arena with a new system being called Verismo. Not only will the new machine brew single-cups of coffee but it can also brew lattes and espressos.

We got a chance to demo the new Verismo and it’s no joke. The coffee tastes exactly like it does from the stores. And although it won’t give you the friendly barista experience you receive at your local Starbucks, the Verismo will allow you to bang out a fresh cup in less than 30 seconds after you roll out of bed.

Starbucks Director of GLobal Research and Development Paul Camera walked us through the process of brewing a cup and they even asked yours truly to do a video spot. Side note on Paul, he is a coffee scientist and has the coolest job in the world.

The $199 price point puts it just $20 over the premium version of the Keurig but also gives you the latte and espresso capabilities you can’t receive anywhere else.

For now the Verismo is only available online and in select retailers like Macy’s but in October you’ll be able to pick up the Verismo and pods at a Starbucks near you.

Release the pod and close the handle with no pod in the machine
Press the brew button for 7.2 fluid oz. of hot water
For a more intense flavor, press the brewed button a second time to stop the flow of water at your desired level.
