“A new era for Microsoft and our customers,” Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer said at a press event in New York today. Coming from a guy who has dabbled with 8 first hand, I can say it’s definitely a new innovative UI unmatched by any other platform. The live tile system will be the Windows’ bread and butter in the near to distant future. If you’re open minded enough to leave behind the simple world of Apple and the blue screen world of the “old” Microsoft, the tiles are worth a shot. Once customized to the user, the tiles serve as an easy access point to every facet of digital life. Microsoft is taking a leap of faith, playing with the loyalty of its declining but dedicated followers, but this could be just what it needs to catapult it back in to the running in 2013.
