528. That’s the total number of people who have been to Space. Ever. That number is made up of an incredibly rare fraternity of the most brilliant and bravest men and women to ever live. in 1962 John F Kennedy told us, “We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard” and now, 50 years later, space travel is becoming available to the common man. To celebrate the launch of AXE Apollo the brand is sending 22 lucky bastards on the adventure of a lifetime. Last night we got to attend the official AXE Apollo launch party where we met legends, got to see a top new musical talent perform live and partied the night away.

The launch event took place at the Planetarium at The American Museum of Natural History. We’re been to dozens of AXE events in the last few years and this was by far the most impressive and well done we’ve seen. For a brand that produces dazzling events that is a bold, and true statement.

The night started when we checked into the Planetarium and were greeted by a 6-foot ice sculpture depicting the legendary photo of Buzz Aldrin standing on the Moon.

We then got to stand on the Moon…without spacesuits.

Then got to partake in the open bar and AXE passed around incredible mini appetizers including Philly cheese steak spring rolls,  truffled mac and cheese bites, chicken and waffles with honey glaze, and more.

The night kicked off with an epic announcement from none other than Buzz Aldrin, the second bro to ever step foot on the Moon. Take a moment to read his Wikipedia. The stories of his genius level intelligence and fearlessness in the face of unimaginable danger is awe-inspiring.

Buzz announced that he partnered with AXE to send 22 lucky adventurers to Space with exploration agency SXC. You can enter now sign up on the AXE Apollo Space Academy website.

After his announcement we got a chance to meet Buzz. It was an amazing experience so this we morning pulled together a story featuring 11 Awe-inspiring Photos of Buzz Aldrin – it is worth a look.

At the event we got to hang out with the AXE team and caught up with our good friends, Dan and Lauren, who shaped the social media strategy for AXE and we’re recently featured on Wired.com for their impressive work. Dan and Lauren’s two year run at the helm recently ended and they handed the AXE keys over to the new social media managers, Rocky (left) and Law (right). After this we hopped in cars and headed to Empire Hotel for the after-party.

The after-party at Empire Hotel’s roof-top lounge featured a drink menu inspired by AXE Apollo, more incredible mini food (I had four sliders and a completely unhealthy amount of mac and cheese bites) and the sweet sweet tunes of DJ Levek.
