Watch: The first trailer for Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dunkirk’ is absolutely epic

A new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk has been released. The two-minute clip begins with an unexpected war attack on a beach, in which soldiers swiftly scatter through the sand, trying to protect themselves from bullets overhead.

The World War II-inspired film tells the story of the Miracle of Dunkirk, the nine-day evacuation from Dunkirk, France, that saved nearly 400,000 allied troops in 1940.

The poster for the film was also released, featuring a breathtaking image of a man onlooking a dark and foggy battle ground. The poster’s text reads “Dunkirk: the event that shaped our world.”

Dunkirk will hit theaters and IMAX in July 2017.
