On Tuesday morning, actress Carrie Fisher passed away at the age of 60, just four days after suffering a heart attack while on a flight from London to Los Angeles.
The daughter of screen legends Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, Carrie Fisher first made a name for herself in the 1975 comedy, Shampoo. But it was her role as Princess Leia in Star Wars that would solidify Fisher as a legend in her own right. Memorable roles in The Blues Brothers, When Harry Met Sally and The Man With One Red Shoe followed, not to mention The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, where she reprised her role as Princess Leia.
In addition to acting, Fisher was also an author and screenwriter, whose memoir, Postcards from the Edge, was made into a film of the same name starring Meryl Streep. Fisher was very public about her addictions to cocaine and prescription drugs and her struggles with bipolar disorder. Despite her personal troubles, Fisher continued acting, with a hilarious stint on NBC’s 30 Rock and her triumphant return as Leia in The Force Awakens just last year.
In honor of Fisher’s 40-year career, we have collected some of the best behind the scenes photos showcasing the star’s love of her craft and her costars. Hopefully they will bring a smile on this depressing day.
