We all know that San Francisco Giants ace (not so much this year but we still love him) is heavily involved with Red Bull, see above. Just this morning Lincecum posted a picture of what looks to be a forthcoming special Lincecum Red Bull can. Judging from the discussion taking place on Facebook it sounds like his fan are hoping Tim focuses more on pitching and less on pitching products but we’ll leave that for you to decide.

This summer we went on an epic baseball trip across America to visit 11 baseball stadiums and complete a baseball bucket list with Windows Phone. Along the way we heard plenty of player at bat music. Some players had pump up jams while others had funny songs to get the crowds attention. We used the HTC Titan II to Shazam plenty of the songs but there were several times during the trip that John, Anthony and myself said that it would be cool if there was a website that catalogues every MLB player at bat songs. I’m glad to know that we weren’t the only people in America to have this conversation because just this week Austin Hutchison, a student at THE Ohio State University, dropped us a line regarding a baseball website called MLBplatemusic.com he and two friends, Mike (Akron, OH, junior finance major), and Kathryn (senior, Apple Valley, Minnessota, dental hygiene major), are working on that will allow fans to find the plate music to all of your favorite MLB players. We decided to talk to these college entrepreneurs about how the site got started, where it is headed and the trends in MLB at bat music. Visit more »

Ask 50 NFL fans who their favorite player in the league is and you’ll probably get 50 different answers. Popularity at its core is so subjective, if only there was a way to scientifically rank popularity. Now there is. Using a ranking system we’ve developed that takes into account social media and web search rankings we’re calling Algorithm X, we’ve ranked the top 100 NFL players according to the internet.

As we celebrate Ted Williams’ birthday let’s look back at one part of his epic life that is often overlooked. Ted Williams is widely regarded at the best pure hitter in baseball history. But let’s not remember him for being the last man to hit over .400 in a season. Or his two triple crowns (1941 and 1947). Let’s remember Ted Williams for his courage.

Was there ever any doubt that Messi is the best in the world? Here he is on August 29th dominating a free kick against Real Madrid. The curve action he put on the ball along with the precision to reach the far end of the goal is Sacha Kljestan-esque.

College football took a beating this offseason. Some of the nation’s premiere programs have been mired in scandals that rocked the nation. There was the Nevin Shapiro scandal at the University of Miami. The Terrelle Pryor and Jim Tressel mess at Ohio State. Reggie Bush returned his Heisman Trophy and USC’s post season ban is over. UNC is still trying to figure out how to keep their athletes in class. LSU stand out and last year’s Heisman Trophy runner up Tyrann Mathieu is in rehab for smoking pot. The Jerry Sandusky scandal in Happy Valley rocked not only the college sports world but it shocked just about everyone who has a soul. With all that said, it’s time to get ready for what we actually enjoy about NCAA football… the actual games. And this season is shaping up to be a season that can actually overcome all the dirty that muddled the water in the off season. To get ready for the season here are the top ten games to watch in the opening weekend. Be sure the check back each week for a preview of the top match ups for each weekend.

A new series of nearly identical clips by two of the greatest players of all time. This is amazing. And, while it won’t do anything to quell the Michael Jordan vs. Kobe Bryant debate that’s been going on for years now, it will show MJ and Kobe fans just how similar these two played on the basketball court over the years. We’d also like to point out that the guy who edited this clip together deserves some sort of award. He must have spent entire days of his life watching clips of both guys just to find the nearly identical plays that you see here. Very well done. [source]

It’s been a wild week for Roger Clemens. In less than 7 days 50-year-old Clemens signed with the Sugarland Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League, warmed up by playing in a over-50 year old softball game in Houston, joined the team, signed a few autographs & kissed some babies and tonight it culminated with his first professional start since September 2007. The Rocket says his weekend start in the minors shouldn’t be viewed as a prelude to a big-league comeback but it’s good to see him back on the mound. As we did with his old friend Andy Pettitte, here is a look an insiders looks at The Rocket’s comeback to baseball.

The surprises here are few and far between, especially given NBA salaries are generally well known and always available to the public. For the 2012-2013 season however, there is a rather glaring reality–nine out of the top ten highest paid players are ballin’ in either New York, Miami, or Los Angeles.

Last night the Philadelphia Phillies paid homage to the terrible (or awesome depending on how you look at it) trends and style of the 1990′s with Retro Night. Each player had a special graphic when they stepped up to the plate, Waldo was in the house and apparently the walk up music included some classics too.

Aquille Carr beat up his 26 year old baby mama (allegedly) then went on to score an astounding 56 points just hours later. Cold blooded. Seton Hall University has a major dilemma on their hands. Do they support Chris Brown‘s protégé by allowing Carr to sign a letter of intent on November 14th and make it official or do they dig their heels in and let the most exciting high shcool player in the nation go? All eyes are on Seton Hall as this debate rages because if the Pirates give him the boot another very high profile team will certainly swoop right in and sign the 5’6” crime stopper from Baltimore. I’m leaning towards let him play. SHU is a catholic school and maybe he can be rehabbed, after all his baby mama did commit statutory rape so although hitting a women is wrong in every case there are probably two sides to the story. Plus his latest mixtape is friggen absurd and he’ll pack the Rock every game and bring the Pirates back to the top.

Game time. Some brilliant s.o.b. used the animation technique ‘Rotoscoping‘ to recreated classic NBA moments with stick figures. The artist did a pretty solid jobs of capturing the movement and essence of your favorite NBA stars so we decided to play a game. This will probably be pretty easy for most avid NBA fans but it’ll also be a fun brain game that will job your memory. Match the stick figure to the NBA Great, answers are all the way at the bottom (if you need them).

Americans love their football. Brits love their football, too. Thing is, they love different footballs. Americans love the football that involves a pigskin, gridiron and crushing body blows between 300-pound behemoths. Brits, and pretty much the rest of the world, love the football that’s also known as futbol, futebol or — in the States — soccer. But how do the respective footballs match up on social media? This infographic from Mashable.com gives a visual representation of how the two football leagues compare on social media.

What’s the first thing you’d want to do after you worked your ass off for years, generated domestic and international swimming pool hype, crossed the pond, nearly dethroned the king of fast-food-sub-sandwich-swimming, talked to the Lollipop Guild (Costas, Secrest), and flew back to your adoring America an athletic hero? If you guessed put girls in bikinis on your shoulders than you’re as much an American triumph as Ryan Lochte. No one is condemning Lochte, as he’s worked hard and he’s allowed to play hard, but even he has to know that What Happens in Vegas, Stays on the Internet. His grill wearing and “Jeah” saying antics garnish the attention he undoubtedly desires, and rightfully so because thats the kind of stuff us ‘Mericans are into. It’s fine by us, as the only thing holding Ryan back from being the ultimate Olympic hero is marrying a Kardashian. Captain America maybe not, but the role of Captain Blackout is accepting applications in Vegas.
