5 to 1 underdog Timothy Bradley stunned boxing’s top dog Manny Pacquiao in a controversial split decision on Saturday. Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach, Pacquiao himself and even Bradley were dumbfounded by the decision as Pacquiao connected on 253 punches (34%), while Bradley landed just 159 (19%) and most saw Pacquiao winning 10 of the 12 rounds in the WBO welterweight showdown. Apart from Floyd Mayweather, Pacquiao has no one to fight with and losing against Bradley would build anticipation for their November 10 rematch. The rematch was announced even before the first punches were thrown on Saturday night. It is a move that will net everyone involved millions and makes sense that a Pacquiao loss would be the best way to build buzz. The profits made from the rematch will benefit the boxers and promoters involved but pulling the strings in this way was a terrible decision for the sports itself. Calling the match rigged is a bold claim but it doesn’t come as a surprise to many people, follow #RIPboxing on Twitter to see all the discussion, even Katy Perry is getting in on the action. Rigged or not rigged it was a bad loss for boxing and will surely help UFC gain more followers. If there was ever more »
