  • Time-Lapse Video: Space Shuttle Endeavor Travels Through Los Angeles

Here is an amazing video produced by the Los Angeles Times that shows the Space Shuttle’s 12-miles journey from Los Angeles International Airport, through Inglewood, to the California Science Center in Exposition Park. “Mission 26″ as it was dubbed because of the spacecraft’s 25 flight missions for NASA started just before midnight Thursday and finished Sunday afternoon, more than 16 hours late but lucky for us the entire trip was condensed into this tight two minute package.

This is one of the many reasons we need to step up funding for NASA. The space shuttle Endeavour took a slow 12-mile trek through Los Angeles city streets on a 160-wheeled carrier. It is passing through neighborhoods and strip malls, headed toward its final destination, the California Science Center in South Los Angeles. At times, the shuttle has barely cleared trees, houses and and street signs along a course heavily prepared for the trip.

  • Space Shuttle Enterprise Docks At It’s New Home On New York’s Hudson River [25 High Quality Photos]

The space shuttle Enterprise – named after the spaceship in Star Trek – floated past the Statue of Liberty and One World Trade Center on a barge on Wednesday and docked near its new home at a museum on New York’s Hudson River. Crowds of people turned out to see the retired spacecraft make its final approach to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum where it was placed on display atop the World War II aircraft carrier USS Intrepid. For a shuttle that never made it into space, Enterprise has had quite a journey. In April, hundreds of tourists and New Yorkers watched in awe as Enterprise flew over the city piggy-backed on a Boeing 747 Jumbo jet.

  • Space Shuttle Enterprise Takes A Boat Ride Around New York City [Photos]

Atten-shun, New Yorkers! This will not be as spectacular as her flyover on top of her 747 mothership, but it will be a great view for all of you: NASA’s Space Shuttle Enterprise is going around New York right now! Enterprise is en route to Port Elizabeth, New Jersey, where it will remain till Tuesday. Then a tugboat will move her to the Intrepid aircraft carrier. She will remain on top of the carrier until she gets into her permanent place in the new Space Shuttle Pavillion of the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. On Tuesday it will depart at 9:15am and sail past the Statue of Liberty and the World Trade Center at 10:40am, before she reaches her final destination at Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum at 11:30am.
