It has been nearly two years since audiences were wowed by Michael B. Jordan in Creed, the 2015 boxing flick that follows Adonis, the son of Apollo Creed, and of course, features Apollo’s old pal Rocky. Since its release, we have known that a Creed 2, aka Rocky VIII, just had to happen. In recent months, Stallone has hinted that a script was in the works but now we know that he’ll have an even bigger hand in the next installment:
Stallone, who last directed a Rocky flick with 2006’s Rocky Balboa will be returning behind the camera. While Creed director Ryan Coogler will be missed — he’s currently busy directing Black Panther for the Marvel Cinematic Universe — there’s no denying that Creed 2 is in capable hands. In addition to writing all six Rocky flicks, Stallone also directed four of them (II, III, IV and Rocky Balboa).
So what can we expect from Creed 2? We know that Dolph Lundgren is returning as Rocky IV villain Ivan Drago — the man who killed Apollo Creed in the ring — but we don’t know if Adonis will face Drago or his own protege in the film. No matter how it plays out, though, you just know it’s going to be great.
