We are huge fans of the the United States men’s national soccer team and we were really looking forward to cheering them on at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Unfortunately, that’s just not going to happen. Following a 2-1 loss to Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday night, the US has failed to qualify. So what happened?
Following the loss, former USMNT player and current ESPN soccer analyst Taylor Twellman unleashed an epic rant on SportsCenter about the sorry state of American soccer:
The United States has over 300 million people and billions of dollars are pumped into soccer. How could we not come up with a team to beat — or even tie — Trinidad and Tobago? Clearly there was a problem not just with Tuesday’s match but with the entire qualifying campaign. And until we change what we’re doing, we will continue to flounder.
