We here at RSVLTS HQ are huge pizza fans — so much so, in fact, that we wear our love of pizza on our sleeves…and all over the rest of our Pizza Party Short Sleeve Shirt. And now, thanks to the greatest nutritionist the world has ever know, we have more reason than ever to love pizza.
We’ve all had those mornings where, while suffering from an insert-alcohol-of-your-choice-here-induced headache, we reach for the nearest foodstuff in an attempt to quell the whatever beast has found its way into our stomach. And that at-the-ready food is invariably a leftover slice of pizza. But while society would have you believe that starting off the day with a slice of pizza is disgusting and utterly shameful, Chelsey Amer, MS, RDN, CDN, tells The Daily Meal it’s actually a better choice than cereal.
“You may be surprised to find out that an average slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain nearly the same amount of calories. However, pizza packs a much larger protein punch, which will keep you full and boost satiety throughout the morning.”
That breakfast cereal is all carbs and is probably packed with sugar. But pizza? That’s a balanced breakfast of protein, carbs and maybe even some veggies. Okay, okay, pizza is certainly not a health food by any stretch of the imagination nor is it the best choice for breakfast. But still, it’s better than cereal and that’s all we need to no longer feel ashamed for starting off the day with a slice of cheesy goodness. Now if only we could control ourselves to stop at just one…
